HOMOSEXUALITY, MARRIAGE, AND SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH ANIMALS- WHAT?

I received a great question last night about homosexuality. I was asked, "If homosexuality is wrong according to the Bible, why did God make us relational?" Basically she was asking, "Why is homosexuality a sin if we were made to long for relations with another person, or why is the desire for companionship in our DNA?"

Like I said, it's a great question. I would like to first say that the desire for companionship is not at all sinful. God indeed gave us the desire, but sin has come into the picture and now we don't know what to do with our God given desire. So instead of being guided in the right direction with our desires, sin takes us to places that were never intended by God. For example, we have, homosexuality, adultery (even looking at a man or woman who's not your husband or wife to lust after them), fornication (sex before marriage), incest (sexual relations with your relative), masturbation which is sexual relations with oneself, and bestiality (sexual relations with animals).

Through God's design for companionship it is clear from the beginning that God designed it between man and woman. Specifically, in the beginning in the book of Genesis chapter 2 God states that it was not good for man to be alone, and that He would make a helper fit for the man (v18). After that, God formed out of the ground beast, birds, and so forth. Adam named the livestock. After this, the Bible says, "But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him." There was not a helper fit for him, because the animals he named were not human. So what does God do? From Adam, God creates someone fit for the man, He creates a woman. He doesn't create another man fit for Adam, He creates a woman.

We see here in the book of Genesis chapter 2, God is the One who is the Author, and the Creator of heterosexual union between male and female, man and wife. Amen.

After Adam and Eve sinned, everything becomes twisted for mankind, and I mean everything. Before sin entered the world, the Bible said, "But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him." Again, meaning that the animals he named were not compatible for him. Adam was human, and it would have been unnatural for Adam to have relations with the beast of the field, so God who is of natural and pure order creates woman for Adam, but after sin our desire for relations becomes sinfully twisted.

People were even having sexual relations with animals (Leviticus 18:23). What happened? In the Garden it was stated that there was not found a help mate fit for man until God made woman for man. So why in Leviticus and Deuteronomy (Deut 27:21), why are men and women given warning against having sex with animals? The reason; sin has polluted us all, including our God given desire for companionship.

Our sinful nature makes us think the unnatural is natural, sin blinds us to believe that a man sleeping with a man, or a woman sleeping with a woman is natural, when in actuality it stems from our sinful nature due to the fall in Genesis chapter 3.

Coming from Genesis 2; the same way it would have been unnatural for Adam to have slept with the beast of the field, the same way it is unnatural for man to sleep with another man, or a woman to sleep with another woman.

It's true, we are created as relational creatures, and most of us long for companionship which is a God given gift, but it's God's gift for His glory, and it’s given to be expressed between man and wife in marriage. This is the natural way.

True marriage is expressed through a union of two Christians coming together to display the beauty of the Gospel. The husband represents Jesus and the wife represents the Church who Jesus gave His life for when He died for her sin (Ephesians 5:22-33).

So we are relational people by nature, but sin has distorted the gift of companionship, and outside of the gospel it is unable to be expressed in its pure mode. As relational people this can only be restored through the blood of Jesus, and if God sees fit, the man or woman who have been made alive can display the Gospel under The Last Adam, Jesus, in their marriage.

God united marriage between man and woman for a reason, the true order is to display His glory. We have to be honest to say that going against that given order is sin which leads to more sin, disorder, and confusion.

Human relations between man and woman is restored only by the Gospel, The Last Adam, Jesus, brought it back for His bride, the Church, and the Father is pleased to accept it, and by the Spirit it is so. In Christ, relations between man and woman can be restored back to God's order. All sinners are to Repent and Believe in the Finished Work of Jesus on the Cross. All sin is paid for there, and sinners who believe are made new to live how God designed for His glory. Amen

The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. (Genesis 2:20-22 ESV)
